Dhaka-based Barguna Journalists Association demands justice for those involved in Sohag’s murder
Barguna businessman Lal Chand alias Sohag was brutally murdered by throwing stones in Old Dhaka over a business dispute and non-payment of bribe. Protesting the incident, Dhaka-based Barguna District Journalists Association has demanded immediate arrest of those involved and punishment in a speedy trial tribunal. In a joint statement, the organization’s president Abdul Khalek Lavlu and general secretary Toufiq Mahmud said that such a barbaric murder is unthinkable in any civilized society. Sohag was not only a businessman, but also a hardworking businessman for the people of Barguna in the capital. At the same time, this cruelty has created a deep wound in the hearts of our Barguna and countrymen. This is not just a murder, but a naked attack on the security and overall safety of the country. The Dhaka-based Barguna Journalists Association strongly condemns this murder and strongly demands from the concerned administration that all the criminals involved in the murder be identified and arrested immediately. The criminals should be given maximum punishment through an impartial and effective judicial process as soon as possible. The family of the deceased should be provided with state assistance, protection and compensation. We believe that if this barbarity is not punished exemplary, then people’s trust in the law and order of the society will be severely damaged. We pray for the forgiveness of the departed soul of Sohag and express our deepest condolences to his bereaved family.
