Decision taken at the meeting of the Advisory Council

The political parties, which have been long-standing allies of the anti-fascist movement, are requested to discuss among themselves and give unified instructions to the government as soon as possible (if possible within the next week). If such instructions are received, it will be much easier for the government to take a decision. We all need to remember that in the current situation there is no room for delay.
The government’s firm determination to hold the next parliamentary elections in the first half of February 2026 has been reiterated. An emergency meeting of the Advisory Council was held to discuss the July Charter prepared by the National Consensus Commission and issues related to its implementation. It was presided over by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The meeting was held at the office of the Chief Advisor in Tejgaon, the capital, today, Monday (November 3).
The gathering thanked the Consensus Commission and the political parties for their efforts to establish consensus on reforms and for establishing consensus on many issues. The meeting of the Advisory Council discussed the finalization of the July National Charter (Constitutional Reform) Order proposed by the National Consensus Commission, the organization of the referendum and the content of the referendum mentioned therein. It was observed that despite lengthy discussions in the Consensus Commission, there are differences of opinion on some of the reform recommendations. In addition, the meeting expressed concern over the differences of opinion that have arisen among the political parties on the question of when the referendum will be held and what its content will be. In this context, the meeting expressed the view that it is necessary to take a final decision on an urgent basis in the light of the proposals of the Consensus Commission on when the referendum will be held, what the content of the referendum will be and what action will be taken regarding the differences of opinion mentioned in the July Charter.
