The death toll in Afghanistan earthquake has risen to 20, with more than 300 injured. This information was revealed in a report by Qatar-based media Al Jazeera.
The earthquake was felt near the country’s Mazar-i-Sharif at around 1 am local time on Sunday (October 2). Its intensity was 6.3 on the Richter scale. The depth was 28 kilometers. The city is home to about 550,000 people. The strong earthquake damaged the traditional Blue Mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif. The strong tremors tore off the plaster of various parts of the mosque.
A video published on the micro-blogging site ‘X’ showed rescuers trying to rescue people trapped under the rubble. One video showed bodies being pulled out. Earlier, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake in the eastern region on August 31 of this year killed more than 2,200 people, making it the deadliest earthquake in recent Afghan history.
