Deadly school shooting in the United States, many killed and injured
A shooting has been reported at a Catholic school in Minneapolis, one of the main cities in the US state of Minnesota. It is feared that many people, including children, have been injured in the incident on Wednesday morning (August 27) local time. The BBC reported, citing CBS News, that several ambulances were seen at 53rd Avenue and Bryant Avenue South after the incident. The FBI and Minneapolis police, including various law enforcement agencies, are reportedly at the scene. Speaking to CBS News, two federal law enforcement sources said that more than 20 people were injured in the shooting. In addition, a separate CBS report said that at least one person was killed. Security sources said that the gunman was wearing black clothing and was carrying a rifle. No other weapons were mentioned – but the investigation is still ongoing. The sources told CBS News that they did not want to give any information based on speculation about the casualties. However, the attacker is initially believed to have committed “suicide.” US Interior Secretary Christie Noem said her department was monitoring the “horrific shooting” and was in contact with other agencies. She also said she would share more information as it becomes available. Noem said, “My prayers are with the victims and their families of this horrific attack.” Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar said she was “shocked” by the horrific violence at the school.
