DB claims in chargesheet: Osman Hadi was killed on the orders of former councilor and Jubo League leader Bappi

Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) Police Additional Police Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam said that Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi was shot dead on the orders of Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, former councilor of Ward No. 6 of Dhaka North City Corporation and organizing secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Jubo League. He gave this information at a briefing held at the DMP Media Center on Tuesday (January 6) afternoon after filing a chargesheet against 17 people in the Hadi murder case.
Shafiqul Islam said, “Hadi was killed on the plan of Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, former councilor of Ward No. 6 of Dhaka North City Corporation and organizing secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Jubo League. Hadi was vocal against the falling (Awami League) government. He was killed due to political vendetta.”
He said that the charge sheet has been filed as the investigation proved the allegations against the accused. Out of the 17 people who filed the charge sheet, 12 have been arrested and five are absconding. Regarding the alleged video message of accused Faisal Karim Masud, Shafiqul Islam said, ‘He may have given the video message, but evidence of his involvement has been found against him.’
Osman Hadi was shot in public in Bijoynagar, Dhaka on December 12. He later died on December 18 while undergoing treatment in Singapore. Police said the gunman, Faisal Karim Masud, and his accomplice Alamgir Sheikh, fled to India after the shooting. Faisal is a leader of the banned Chhatra League. Osman Hadi’s political colleagues have alleged that the ruling Awami League was behind the killing. Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of the Inqilab Manch, filed a case against Hadi at Paltan Police Station on December 14 over the shooting. Later, on December 20, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddique Azad ordered the addition of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code to the case.
