Daily necessities market surges during Ramadan, price of a lemon haldi is 140 taka
On the first day of Ramadan, the market for daily necessities across the country is quite high. Since Thursday morning (February 19), every product is being sold at a higher price than last week.
The price of lemon has more than doubled in the space of two weeks. A haldi that cost 40 taka a week ago is now being sold for 120 to 140 taka depending on the place. Local onions are being sold for 52 to 70 taka. The prices of brinjal, green chillies and cucumbers have also crossed the century mark. Depending on the quality, chickpeas are being sold for 70 to 90 taka. Dates, one of the main foods of Iftar, are not available below 300 taka. Broiler chicken is being sold for 190 to 200 taka. The price of beef is also increasing.
Meanwhile, sellers claim that the demand for this product is high during the month of Ramadan. However, the price has increased slightly due to lack of supply. On the other hand, buyers have expressed their anger and demanded market monitoring.
