    Cyclone Dana is heading towards land

    The strong cyclone Dana formed in the Bay of Bengal is approaching the land in a dangerous form. According to the latest forecast, the cyclone is likely to hit the coast between Puri in Odisha, India and Sagar Dwip in West Bengal between 6:00 PM today and 6:00 AM tomorrow Friday.

    Meteorologist Mohammad Abdul Rahman Khan said, if the course is not changed, “Cyclone Dana” may cross the south-west region especially the coastal region of Khulna and Barisal anytime on Thursday night.

    Due to the impact of the Cyclone Dana, the water level of rivers and streams is increasing in various areas including Khulna, Satkhira, Pirojpur. The sky was cloudy with drizzle in the capital as well.

    According to the special notification number 9 of the Meteorological Department this morning, the strong Cyclone Dana, which is located in the east-central Bay of Bengal and the adjacent west-central Bay of Bengal, has moved further north-northwestward and is currently staying in the west-central Bay of Bengal and the adjacent northwest Bay of Bengal. It is 595 km southwest of Chittagong sea port, 555 km from Cox’s Bazar sea port at 6 am today. In the southwest, Mongla was 485 km south of the sea port and Payra was 475 km south-southwest of the sea port. It may move further north-northwest.

    The advance of the Cyclone Dana may cause heavy to very heavy rainfall with gusty winds over North Bay of Bengal and adjacent coastal areas of Bangladesh and its outlying islands and reefs.

    Maximum sustained wind speed is 90 km/h within 64 km of the cyclone center, increasing to 110 km/h in gusty or gale-like form. The sea is very rough in the vicinity of the strong cyclone center. As a result Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to display local warning signal number 3.
