Cyclist killed in EBI bus crash
A cyclist named Zahidul Islam (60) was killed in Kushtia after being hit by a double-decker bus carrying students of the Islamic University. The incident took place at around 10 am on Tuesday in the Jelkhana More area of Kushtia city.
The deceased Zahidul Islam is the son of the deceased Nur Uddin of Housing A Block.
According to police and eyewitness sources, Zahidul Islam was going towards PTI Road from the housing area on a bicycle at around 10 am. At that time, a speeding double-decker bus carrying students of the Islamic University coming from the opposite direction in the Jelkhana More area of the city ran over Zahidul Islam. As a result, Zahidul’s bicycle was crushed and he died on the spot. At that time, the locals stopped the bus, but the driver fled.
Later, the police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it to the Kushtia General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station, Officer Shihab Uddin, said that the bus has been kept in police custody. Legal action will be taken if the family of the deceased files a written complaint.
