Cyber attack on coordinators’ Facebook IDs.
The Facebook IDs of one of the five coordinators of the student-public uprising have been attacked by a group of cyber terrorists. Faiz Tayyeb Ahmed, ICT advisor to Information and Communication Technology Advisor Nahid Islam confirmed the matter. However, he did not disclose the names of the people who lost their IDs. But the names of three coordinators have been revealed.
They are Syed Abdullah, Talat Rafi and Sadiq Kayem. Meanwhile, coordinator Hasnat Abdullah, advisor Asif Mahmud and chief organizer of the National Citizens Committee Sarjis Alam have deactivated their own Facebook IDs due to fear of attack.
Sources confirm that coordinators’ IDs began getting disabled since Wednesday evening. A domestic platform, that also works on cyber security confirmed too the disabling of coordinator’s Facebook ID. The responsibility of this cyber attack is claimed by a hacker group known as ‘Crack Platoon’.
None of their IDs was disabled or damaged. There were some problems with the IDs, so they deactivated the IDs.” A coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement said. He further added: “We are trying to identify those who are making such attempts. We initially learnt that some of them are doing this from Bangladesh.”
In this regard, Syed Abdullah, a student leader, said, “I suddenly received a message yesterday afternoon that an attempt is being made to disable my ID. Later, I went to the ID and ensured its security. But later I saw that the ID had been suspended.”
He blamed the ruling party’s cyber team for the incident and said, “After the ID was suspended, we came to know from their various pages that this was done by targeting those who were in the movement.”
Faiz Tayyeb Ahmed, ICT consultant to Information and Communication Technology Advisor Nahid Islam, said, “Work is underway to restore the IDs of those whose IDs have been lost. The ICT department is contacting officials from the Asia Pacific region of Matter, or in other words, Facebook’s parent company, to recover the ID.
