Countries that could recognize the Palestinian state today

The UK, Canada, and Portugal have already recognized the Palestinian state. Several other countries could follow suit today, Monday (September 22). Portugal has already done so. Among the countries that could recognize Palestine today are major economies like France. Other potential countries include Belgium, Luxembourg, Andorra, San Marino, and Malta. Officially, there is no such thing as a Palestinian state. However, many countries have granted international recognition to this territory, and it maintains diplomatic missions in various countries. But due to the long-standing conflict with Israel, Palestine lacks internationally recognized borders, a capital, or an army. Following decades of Israeli military occupation of the West Bank, the Palestinian Authority was established in the 1990s, but it does not have full control over the territory or its people. Gaza is now a war zone due to Israeli aggression. Therefore, recognizing Palestine at this stage is primarily symbolic. It is an important step morally and politically, but in reality, this decision will not change the situation in Palestine very much. However, even this symbolic step could bring about significant changes.
