Controversial Chhatra League leader Saddam released on bail
Controversial Chhatra League leader Saddam has finally been released on bail. He secretly left Jessore Central Jail at around 2 pm yesterday (January 28) and went to his house in Bagerhat with his relatives, which was confirmed by the prison authorities after 9 pm.
According to family sources, Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Chhatra League President Jewel Hasan alias Saddam was arrested on April 5, 2025, in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act. 5 more cases were filed against him. He has been in jail since then. He was taken to Jessore Central Jail on December 15 last year. His wife Kaniz Fatema Swarnali failed to get her husband released from jail despite many attempts. At one point, she became frustrated. On January 26, Swarnali drowned her 9-month-old child Sejad Hasan Nazif in a bucket of water. Then she committed suicide. The next day, Saddam’s body was taken to Jessore Jail to be seen for the last time. Saddam left the prison, touching his wife and holding his dead child in his arms as he bid them farewell. The incident created a huge stir among the public.
Md. Asif Uddin, acting Senior Jail Superintendent (Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate) of Jessore Central Jail, said that the High Court granted him bail for 6 months on January 26. The bail papers arrived two days later. Yesterday, at around 2 pm, Saddam left Jessore Central Jail along with other family members and left for his home in Bagerhat.
