‘List of conspirators on book distribution is being made’
The government could not hand over new books to students from all over the country at the same time on the first day of the English New Year. Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud, education advisor to the interim government, has expressed regret over this. He also announced that a list of conspirators on book distribution will be made.
He said these as the chief guest at the inauguration of the online version of the textbook at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital on Wednesday morning.
The education advisor said, ‘We sincerely regret to the students and guardians that we could not hand over new books to all students across the country on the first day of the new year.
He added, “There is a conspiracy on book distribution. The conspirators have obstructed in various ways. These need to be dealt with. Who has helped us, who has created obstacles for us. Their information is being collected.
The education advisor said, ‘Those who have created obstacles in our work will be listed and given to those who will be in the government next year’, noting that books have been printed at the previous market price this time.
Wahiduddin said this at the same time and also stated that free books for students under the National Curriculum and Textbook Board would not be printed abroad anymore. He has said, ‘From now on, books will no longer be printed abroad. They are being printed in the country.’
‘The books have been cleaned or revised so that party politics remain neutral. Earlier, only general mathematics and general science were taught in grades 9 and 10. Now higher mathematics and higher science will also be taught’, he added.
He said there was a plan to conduct a cleaning campaign in all ministries, including education. Many of those who had been involved with businessmen in the printing industry for several years and became corrupt have already been transferred, Wahiduddin said, adding that the ACC would be asked to investigate the previous officials and employees of the Ministry of Education who were corrupt.
At the event, National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NTCB) Chairman Professor Dr. AKM Riazul Hasan said that 410 million books for classes one to ten are being printed in the country this year. “We have revised 441 books in just two and a half months. Sixty million books have been sent. Four crore are waiting to be loaded on the truck.”
He further said, “We will try to send all the books for primary and tenth classes on January 5, eight books for secondary on January 10 and all the books by January 20.”
It is worth mentioning here that the government of the Awami League fell in the student uprising on August 5. The new curriculum was then canceled. Along with that, it was decided to revise the manuscripts of the books. A lot of delay occurred in completing those tasks and starting printing of the books.
This time the government is printing around 400 million new books. A large number of contents has been added and deleted in the new textbooks. A large number of prose, essays, novels, and poems or topics have been omitted. A large number of new stories, poems including the topic of the July Uprising are given new places. Different historical topics including the declaration of independence in the Liberation War also come under deletion or addition.
