    Committee to investigate Secretariat fire incident: Home Affairs Advisor.

    Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, “A committee will be formed to investigate the horrific fire incident at the Secretariat”.

    He informed this at a briefing in front of the Secretariat at 9 am today, Thursday.

    Home Affairs Advisor, while talking to the journalists, said, “The fire broke out on the sixth floor. Our fire service was informed at 1:52 am, they started working at 1:54 am. The fire was completely under control at 8:05 am. One of our fire-fighters has died in this incident. He died in an accident. He was leaving the secretariat with a pipe. At that time, a truck hit him and injured him. He later died. Two to three others were injured along with him. They are all healthy.”

    The fire broke out on the sixth floor. “It went up, not down,” said the advisor. “We are forming a committee to investigate the incident of fire. Already, the Cabinet Secretary and the Home Secretary have been instructed. A high-powered investigation committee has been asked to be formed.”

    Incidentally, the news of fire reached the Fire Service at 1.52 am on Wednesday. Due to growing intensity, as many as 18 units reached the spot in stages and started the work to control the fire. Later, it was brought under control at 8:05 am.

    It is worth mentioning here that the Fire Service got assistance from police and army members in bringing the fire under control. The number of police and army members at the spot was increased after the fire broke out in its initial stage. Later on, members of BGB were deployed in the Secretariat area.
