Commerce Minister: Government is monitoring the new tariff situation in the US
Bangladesh has not received any new letter about the new tariff situation in the US. However, the government is monitoring the situation, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said. He told reporters at the Secretariat today (February 25) afternoon.
The Commerce Minister said that there are many processes in implementing the tariff agreement with the US. The tariff issue is now evolving. The ruling in light of which the agreement has been made has created a new situation. He also said that a non-disclosure agreement has been made with the US on tariffs. The agreement is a sensitive issue. Earlier, there was a 19 percent country-specific tariff. Now, it is 10 percent for all countries.
Regarding the country’s market situation, the Commerce Minister said that the government controls the market by bringing some products from outside the country. And the market for those products is under control. The price of lemons was abnormal at the beginning of Ramadan, but the price of lemons decreased after three days. The Commerce Minister said that the incident of the TCB truck is very sad. He said, such incidents should not happen. Those involved in selling trucks in different places should be aware of this. Such unwanted incidents should not happen again. The Commerce Minister also said that he would take action rather than promising to stop extortion.
