Colombia bans coal exports, calling Israel a ‘genocide’
Israel has been carrying out a genocide in Gaza for almost two years. Many children and ordinary people in the valley are losing their lives every day due to famine and starvation. The Israeli army is killing helpless people in relief centers, exceeding the level of barbarity. Despite this brutal atrocity and genocide, the countries of the Muslim world are seen playing a silent role to keep the West happy. Apart from minor condemnations, the Arab countries are not taking any strict action. While most countries have failed to take effective action against the ongoing barbarity in Gaza, Colombia is an exception. The South American country has taken strict action against Israel. The country’s President Gustavo Petro has stopped coal exports to Israel, calling it a genocidal country. The Colombian president said that not even a ton of coal will be sent to Israel. I am warning all the heads of the security forces in Colombia. This is my order. As long as Israel continues to bomb innocent people and kill hundreds of people like this, Israel will not receive any coal from Colombia. We do not want to be part of a genocide. Almost a year ago, the Petro government issued a government order to stop coal exports to Israel. However, several officials of its administration have continued to illegally export coal by ignoring this order. The leader also warned of action against them. All the major multinational coal companies in Latin America are unhappy with the president’s decision. The country’s coal sector is facing huge losses. Colombia has imposed economic sanctions against Israel despite the loss of one of the country’s most important exports. Incidentally, about 60 percent of Israel’s coal needs are met by importing coal from Colombia.
