Clashes again in Madaripur, 1 person killed

A person named Alamgir Howlader (55) has been reported to have been killed in a clash between two parties in Notun Madaripur of Laxmiganj area of ​​Madaripur Municipality. A clash broke out between supporters of Hasan Munshi and Akhter Howlader group on Tuesday (March 10) morning. This has again spread tension and panic in the area.
According to local sources, Hasan Munshi and Akhter Howlader group had been in a dispute for a long time over the murder of Sadar Upazila Sramik Dal President Shakil Munshi. As a result, supporters of both sides got involved in a clash with country-made weapons this morning. At that time, Alamgir Howlader was seriously injured. Later, he was rescued and taken to the hospital, where the doctor declared him dead.
Earlier, a clash broke out between the two parties in the same area last Sunday night. In the clash that lasted for about two hours from 9:30 to 11:30 pm, both sides lit torches and threw more than fifty hand grenades at each other. Panic spread throughout the area due to the loud sound of the bombs and people took shelter safely indoors.
Upon receiving the information, Madaripur Sadar police reached the spot and fired several tear gas shells to bring the situation under control. Later, police and army members jointly dispersed the clashers and launched an operation to bring the situation under control. Locals said that earlier, Hasan Munshi’s brother Shakil Munshi was hacked to death in a clash between the groups of Hasan Munshi and Akhter Howlader. Since that incident, chases, counter-chase, bombings and tension have continued between the two sides.
Madaripur Sadar Police Station OC Abul Kalam Azad said that one person was killed in the morning incident. Additional police have been deployed in the area and patrols have been strengthened to bring the situation under control. The situation in the entire area is tense after the clash. Law enforcement agencies are on high alert to avoid any untoward incident.
