Clash between two BNP groups in Gangni
A massive chase, counter-chase and vandalism took place between two BNP groups in Gangni, Meherpur. The clash took place at Gangni Bazar around 11 am today, Tuesday (November 4). Earlier, tension had been prevailing since BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced Amjad Hossain as BNP’s candidate for Meherpur 2 constituency on Monday (November 3). This resulted in chases, counter-chase and vandalism.
Amjad Hossain, a former MP nominated by BNP for Meherpur 2 constituency, said, “Gangni Upazila BNP General Secretary Abdul Awal, a supporter of Meherpur District BNP President Javed Masud Milton, attacked the Upazila BNP office with country-made weapons and carried out massive vandalism.” At least 10 BNP leaders and activists were injured in the attack.
When a call was made to the mobile phone of District BNP President Javed Masud Milton to inquire about this, it was found disconnected. Meanwhile, Gangni Upazila BNP General Secretary Abdul Awal refused to comment on the attack. Gangni Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Boni Israel told us that the situation in Gangni is tense after the scuffle between the two sides. However, the police are working to calm the situation. Amjad Hossain’s supporters claimed, “Initially, Milton’s supporters attacked unilaterally, but the law enforcement agencies played the role of spectators.” Meanwhile, Milton’s pro-Gangni Upazila BNP President Alfaz Uddin Kalu said that Amjad Hossain’s people vandalized their office.
