Former Chhatra Dal leader killed in clash between two BNP factions.
Former Chhatra Dal leader Pavel Mia, 30, was killed in a clash between two BNP factions in Kanchan Municipality in Rupganj, Narayanganj. Angry locals set fire to the accused’s house in the incident.
The incident occurred in front of the municipal Chhatra Dal office next to the Chatila temple of Kanchan Municipality in the upazila around 10:30 pm on Tuesday.
The deceased Pavel Mia is the son of Idris Ali of Krishnanagar area of Kanchan Municipality. He was the former convener of Kanchan Municipality Chhatra Dal.
The clash between supporters of Ward No. 6 BNP General Secretary Bayezid and Municipal Volunteer Party Member Secretary Aminul Islam broke out on Tuesday night, the police and locals said. When Pavel tried to obstruct the clash between the two factions, he was attacked by people from Bayezid’s side due to an old enmity.
Pavel was then beaten up indiscriminately. Later, the people around took him to a local private hospital in critical condition. Later, the doctors on duty there declared him dead.
Meanwhile, as the news of Pavel’s death spread, angry locals set fire to the house of the accused Bayezid at night. Later, the fire service brought the fire under control.
Narayanganj Assistant Superintendent of Police Mehedi Islam said, after the initial examination, the body was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy. The efforts are going on to arrest the accused who were involved in this murder. Further legal steps are being taken in this regard.
