Clash between BNP and NCP supporters in Comilla
A clash took place between BNP supporters of Shapla Kali and Truck symbol in Comilla-4 (Debidwar) constituency over slogans. The incident took place in Sultanpur Union of Debidwar on Saturday (February 7) afternoon. A video of the incident centered on the clash of slogans between BNP and NCP has gone viral on social media.
According to local sources, Comilla North District BNP Member Secretary AFM Tarek Munshi was present as the chief guest at the prayer meeting and discussion meeting organized by the local BNP to seek forgiveness for former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. After the distribution of Tabarak at the end of the program, former MP Engineer Manjurul Ahsan Munshi, whose nomination was rejected by BNP in this constituency, reached there. At that time, Manjur’s supporters started shouting slogans in favor of Truck symbol. At that time, tension arose between both sides when NCP leaders and activists shouted slogans in favor of Shapla Kali. At one point, there was a scuffle and scuffle between the two sides. Later, several BNP leaders arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
In this regard, Debidwar Upazila National Citizens Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Md. Jahangir Alam Sarkar said, I have heard that there was tension between the two sides over sloganeering. However, the situation is now calm. No one was injured in the incident. In this regard, Comilla North District BNP Member Secretary AFM Tarek Munshi said, a pre-announced prayer mahfil and discussion meeting were held to seek forgiveness for former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. After the program, when former MP Engineer Manjurul Ahsan Munshi reached there, his leaders and activists raised slogans in favor of the truck symbol. Later, some NCP leaders raised slogans in favor of Shapla Kali there.
Debidwar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Moniruzzaman said, “I heard that there was a scuffle, but no one was injured. No one from either side filed a complaint with the police station in this incident. If a complaint is received, legal action will be taken after investigating.”
