Chittagong-7: Two candidates fined

The Election Investigation and Judicial Committee has fined two candidates from Chittagong-7 (Rangunia) constituency for violating the electoral code of conduct. The order was issued by the committee chairperson and civil judge Paulina Akhter Smriti on February 9. The order states that Jamaat-e-Islami nominated candidate Dr. ATM Rezaul Karim has been fined Tk 20,000 for violating the political party and candidate code of conduct.
The complaint states that a showdown of motorcycles and vehicles was held in Pomra Union and Rajanagar Union on January 22 and 23. At the hearing, his representative admitted his guilt and apologized.
In addition, BNP nominated candidate Hummam Quader Chowdhury has been fined Tk 15,000 for violating the political party and candidate code of conduct. The complaint states that on January 22, election campaigning was conducted during classes at the grounds of Mirer Khil Government Primary School and Shahabdi Nagar High School in Sarafbhata Union. At the hearing, he admitted his guilt and apologized through his lawyer.
