Child thrown into pond in planned murder attempt by stepfather

A stepfather has been accused of throwing a child into a pond with intent to kill in Fulbari Upazila of Kurigram. The police have arrested the stepfather named Murad Hossain in this incident. The incident took place at around 9 pm on Saturday (August 9) in the Chhararpar area of Shimulbari Union of Fulbari Upazila. The child’s name is Tasin (6). He is the son of the deceased Tara Mia of Sakher Bazar area of Lalmonirhat district. Child Tasin said that after the death of his father, they along with his elder brother Biplob lived with their mother Babita Begum. Six-seven months ago, his mother Babita Begum got married to Murad Hossain, son of Akbar Ali of Saptana area of Lalmonirhat Sadar. Since the marriage, Tasin has been living with Murad at his house with his mother Babita Begum. It is learnt that on Saturday, Murad said that he would take Tasin on a trip. Murad, who had been traveling all day on his motorcycle, threw the child into a pond on the side of the road in Shimulbari Union, Phulbari at around 9 pm. At that time, on his way home from Ajipur Islam Bazar in Fakirpara village, he saw the child drowning in the pond and rescued him and took him to his home. Later, the police of Phulbari police station took the child from the scene to the police station at around 10 pm. Locals said that if the child had not been rescued quickly, it would not have been possible to save the child. There should be strict punishment for such a cruel act. Phulbari police station SI Abdur Rahim said that the stepfather Murad Hossain, who tried to kill him by throwing him into the water, has been arrested by the Lalmonirhat police station. Preparations are underway to file a case with the Phulbari police station against Murad based on the complaint of the rescuer Ajipur Islam.
