Child killed in road accident in Madaripur, private car catches fire
A child was killed in a road accident in Madaripur when a speeding private car hit him. The car was set on fire by an agitated crowd on the spot. Another child was seriously injured. The incident took place near Habiganj Bridge in Bahadurpur Union of Sadar Upazila on Friday (November 28) night, Sadar Police Station said.
Police and local sources said that Sadman Chowdhury (14), an eighth-grade student of American expatriate and businessman Jewel Chowdhury of Puran Bazar Post Office area of Madaripur city, left his house for a long drive in their car with four of his friends yesterday afternoon. Later in the evening, the speeding private car hit a person near Sheikhpur Bridge in Shibchar Upazila and locals chased Sadman Chowdhury. Meanwhile, Sadman Ario, who was speeding towards Madaripur town, ran over Suriya Kazi (10), son of local Delwar Kazi, near Habiganj Bridge in Bahadurpur Union of Madaripur Sadar Upazila. He died on the spot. Another child named Meem Akhter (10) was seriously injured. Later, locals rescued him and admitted him to the hospital. Tension spread in the area immediately after the incident and the agitated crowd set fire to the private car. Madaripur Sadar Police Station OC Adil Hossain told reporters that after receiving the information, police and fire service personnel reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Further legal action will be taken if the family of the deceased complains to the police station.
