Child drowns in Jhenaidah while fetching ball

A child named Simanto died after drowning in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah. The incident took place at 1:30 pm on Wednesday (September 3) in Garabaria village of Maheshpur municipality. The deceased child’s name is Simanto Das (2). He is the son of Madhu Das of Garabaria village of Maheshpur municipality. Locals said that on Wednesday afternoon, Shishu Simanto was playing with a ball near his house. At one point, the ball fell into a nearby pond. At that time, he fell into the pond while trying to pick up the ball from the water. Later, the child was rescued floating in the pond during a search. After that, he was taken to Maheshpur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared the child dead. Maheshpur Police Station OC (Investigation) Sajjadur Rahman Sajjad said that the child’s body was handed over to the family as no complaint was received from the family.
