Chief Advisor’s seven-point proposal to resolve Rohingya crisis
Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has proposed seven action plans to resolve the crisis of the Rohingyas who fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar. He made this proposal in a dialogue titled ‘Stakeholders’ Dialogue: Takeaways to the High-Level Conference on the Rohingya Situation’ after the official inauguration of the main session of the international conference in Cox’s Bazar on Monday (August 25). The seven-point proposal is: First, we must work to develop an effective roadmap for the rapid, safe, dignified, voluntary and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingyas. We cannot remain trapped in the web of words anymore. Second, continued support from international donors and humanitarian partners is essential to fill the funding gap of the Joint Response Plan for 2025-26. Third, all forms of violence against the Rohingya must stop immediately. For this, the Myanmar authorities and the Arakan Army must ensure the security, livelihoods and fundamental rights of the Rohingyas. At the same time, the displaced Rohingyas inside Myanmar should be allowed to return to their homes as soon as possible. Fourth, a dialogue platform is essential to reduce tensions and resolve conflicts between different ethnic groups within Myanmar. Constructive talks should be held with the Rohingya so that reconciliation, restoration of rights and repatriation are possible. Fifth, the role of the international community, including ASEAN, is essential in establishing regional peace and stability. Emphasis should be placed on combating cross-border crimes including human trafficking, drug trafficking, and small arms smuggling. A three-day international conference, ‘Stakeholders’ Dialogue: Takeaways to the High-Level Conference on the Rohingya Situation’, began in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday to strengthen international cooperation for a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis. A special interactive session was held with Rohingya representatives on the first day of the dialogue, where ways to build trust for the safe and dignified repatriation of the Rohingya were discussed. High Representative and National Security Advisor on Rohingya Affairs Khalilur Rahman and Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam participated in the session. Rohingya representatives from various camps in Cox’s Bazar and Rohingya expatriates also participated.
