Chhatra Dal leader who went viral after beating up agriculture officer expelled

Rahat Hasan Qayyum, member secretary of Nakla Chhatra Dal in Sherpur, has been expelled on charges of entering the office and beating up and harassing the upazila agriculture officer for not including the names of people of his choice in the agricultural incentive list.
This information was given in a notification signed by Jahangir Alam, office secretary of the central Chhatra Dal, on Thursday (November 6). The notification mentioned that Chhatra Dal president Rakibul Islam Rakib and general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir approved the decision. Rahat Hasan has been expelled from all organizational posts, including the primary member post.
Earlier, Nakla Upazila Agriculture Officer Shaharia Mursalin Mehedi of Sherpur was beaten and harassed in his office by Nakla Upazila Chhatra Dal leader Rahat Hasan Qayyum on Wednesday. A CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral on social media.
Meanwhile, a regular case was filed at Nakla Police Station on the night of the incident. Chhatra Dal leader Rahat Hasan Qayyum and his associate Fazlu have been named as accused in the case. Accused Rahat Hasan Qayyum is the son of Suruj Mawla of Dhukuria village in Nakla Municipality and Fazlu is the son of Sirajul Haque of the same village.
It is learnt that Rahat and Fazlu entered the office of the Upazila Agriculture Officer at around 2:15 pm yesterday and asked why the Agriculture Officer was not being transferred yet? Who received the agricultural incentives and how much was the share of the leaders? Then they demanded Chhatra Dal’s share.
At that time, the Agriculture Officer said that government incentives are for real farmers. There is no opportunity to give a share to anyone politically. At this, they got angry and started abusing him in obscene language. When the agriculture officer immediately informed the president of the newly dissolved local BNP committee, Khorshed Alam, about the matter, Rahat became even more furious and started beating the officer inside the office along with his associate Fazlu.
The central Chhatra Dal expelled him from the party today due to this incident. Meanwhile, a drive to arrest the accused by regularly accepting cases in the case of beating the agriculture officer is underway, said Abul Kashem, officer-in-charge of Nakla Police Station.
