Chankhalpul residents call for Sheikh Hasina to be brought back to the country and the verdict to be implemented

Residents of Chankhalpul have expressed satisfaction with the death sentence verdict against Sheikh Hasina. They have demanded that Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India, be brought back and the verdict to be implemented quickly. On August 5, 2024, 6 people were shot dead in Chankhalpul and its surrounding lanes. The International Crimes Tribunal has ordered the hanging of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on three specific charges as an instigator of the murder.
Locals were left devastated after the verdict. They told Jamuna Television about the horrors of that day. They said that no other government could have carried out such atrocities and reforms are needed. Earlier, on August 5 last year, during the July Uprising, police opened fire on peaceful students in Chankhalpul area. Shahriar Khan Anas, Sheikh Junaid, Md. Yakub, Md. Rakib Howlader, Md. Ismamul Haque and Manik Mia Shahrik were killed, among many casualties.
