Case filed in the case of killing 8 puppies, officer’s wife arrested
A case has been filed in the case of killing eight puppies by stuffing them in a sack and drowning them in a pond in Ishwardi, Pabna. Ishwardi Upazila Livestock Officer Aklima Khatun filed the case as the plaintiff at around 11:30 pm on Tuesday (December 2). The police have arrested the wife of a government official in this incident.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) ASM Abdun Noor said that the case has been filed under Section 7 of the Animal Welfare Act 2019. Nishi Rahman (38), wife of Upazila Small Farmers Foundation officer Hasanur Rahman, has been made an accused in this incident. After filing the case, she was arrested from a house next to Rahimpur Girls’ School in Ishwardi Municipality Sadar at around 1:30 am yesterday.
Aklima Khatun, the plaintiff in the case, said that when the incident was published in various media and social media, widespread discussion and criticism began. Farida Akhter, advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, called. She called the incident inhumane. She said that this incident has tarnished the image of the country and demanded action. A case has been filed on the orders of senior officials.
Meanwhile, the upazila administration ordered Hasanur Rahman, an official of the Small Farmers Foundation, to leave the government quarters over the killing of the puppies. He left the quarters yesterday afternoon. Hasanul Rahman said, “Considering the safety of the children, my wife asked me to remove the puppies. But I did not think that they would die. I am ashamed and saddened by this incident.”
A week ago, a mother dog gave birth to eight puppies in the courtyard of the government house of Hasanur Rahman, an official of the Upazila Small Farmers Development Foundation. Later, the puppies went missing. This Monday morning, the dog was seen running and crying in the parishad premises. Locals inquired and found out that the puppies had been thrown into a pond and killed. The dead puppies were later recovered from the pond and buried.
