Candidate thanks voters by miking after getting 245 votes
Hosne Ara Begum, who contested as an independent candidate in Jamalpur-5 (Sadar) constituency, got only 245 votes. Despite losing her deposit, she took an exceptional initiative to express her gratitude to the voters. On Monday night (February 16), the female candidate rode an easy bike and miked in the Kathkoli Bazar area of the city. The sight of her thanking the voters with a mouthpiece in her hand has sparked discussions among the locals.
Retired Deputy Assistant Community Medical Officer Hosne Ara Begum participated in the election with the ‘deer’ symbol. According to the information received from the Returning Officer’s office, BNP nominated candidate Advocate Shah Md. Wares Ali Mamun won this constituency by getting 1 lakh 99 thousand 344 votes. Her nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Maulana Abdus Sattar, got 1 lakh 13 thousand 201 votes.
As she received less than one-eighth of the valid votes, Hosne Ara Begum’s deposit was forfeited as per the rules. However, she sees the votes she received as the love of the common people. She said, “Winning or losing is not a big deal; the love of the people is the real achievement.” She is grateful to those who voted for her. The independent candidate expressed her firm determination to stand by the people in the future as well.
