Canada announces to maintain arms embargo on Israel

Canada has announced to maintain an arms embargo on Israel to prevent the use of weapons in Gaza. Canada has reiterated its position on stopping the export of all military goods that could be used in the Gaza war. The Anadolu news agency reported this information in a report on Sunday (August 3). Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said in a statement that no new licenses have been approved for the export of goods (military) that could be used in Gaza since January 2024. She also said, “We suspended licenses for military goods that could be used in Gaza at the beginning of 2024 and they are still suspended. No approvals have been granted.” A report published on July 29 claimed that weapons are still flowing from Canada to Israel. Rejecting the report, Anand said, “Several of the claims in the report are misleading and the reality is distorted.” He further said, “The bullets that are called in the report are actually paintball-style. They were also accompanied by devices that make firearms ineffective when used with ordinary ammunition. They are not suitable for use in a battlefield. If someone tries to use such things, even then a license would be required for it – and that license would never have been granted.” If any organization exports military equipment without a valid license, legal action will be taken against them, Anita said, “This includes fines, confiscation and criminal charges. We will never allow Canadian-made weapons to be used in this conflict.’ In a July 29 report, four NGOs—World Beyond War, the Palestinian Youth Movement, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East, and Independent Jewish Voices—claimed, citing Israeli tax authorities, that Canadian goods labeled “military weapon parts and ammunition” were still going to Israel.
