Call girl, 3 arrested for electrocuting youth
A father of four was allegedly electrocuted to death after being summoned to his office late at night in Barisal to collect a mobile set from a creditor. Police have arrested three people, including two call girls, in this incident.
The incident took place at an unregistered online news portal office on the third floor of Bandrode Zilla Parishad Market in Bhatar Khal area of Barisal city late on Wednesday (December 3). The deceased youth, Bellal Hossain Raj (34), is the son of Md. Abdul Haque Raj of Paschim Char Aicha village in Shayestabad union of Kaunia police station in Barisal. Bellal, a father of a two-month-old son and three daughters, was a hired motorcycle driver by profession.
The arrested are Maya Chowdhury (18), daughter of Raihan Chowdhury of Road No. 1, Khalishpur under Kotwali Police Station in Faridpur, Sadia Akhter (20), daughter of Mizanur Rahman Khokon of Indrahat Barchakathi village in Swarupkathi upazila in Pirojpur, and autorickshaw driver Rana Howlader (28), son of Siraj Howlader of Gilatoli area of Charmonai union in Sadar upazila.
Today, Thursday (December 4), the wife of the deceased said that her husband Bellal left the house on a motorcycle yesterday afternoon after eating. Then in the morning, a man named Rana called his daughter’s mobile number and said that Bellal was admitted to the hospital after a motorcycle accident. Later, he went to the morgue of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal and saw Bellal’s body.
Abdul Haque Raj, the father of the deceased, said that his son Raj used to receive 10,000 taka from a young man named Pintu of Taltoli area of Sadar upazila. Raj confiscated Pintu’s mobile set for not paying. Another person named Swapan from the same area took the mobile from Raj and sold it elsewhere. This led to a dispute between Pintu, Raj and Swapan. Recently, Pintu also threatened Raj.
Abdul Haque Raj alleged that Ripon Rana called Bellal to his alleged newspaper office located on Band Road and promised to recover Pintu’s mobile and Tk 10,000. After that, two men named Ripon and Rana took Bellal’s body down from the third floor at around 4:15 pm. Meanwhile, Ripon Rana fled the scene and the young man named Rana took the body to the hospital.
CCTV footage from the Zilla Parishad Market shows that three people including Bellal Hossain Raj and Rana Howlader entered the alleged online portal office at around 11 pm. Shortly after this, two call girls entered there with bags on their shoulders at 11:50 pm. At 4:07 am, two call girls came down from the Bazar building. At that time, they were seen standing on the stairs and sharing money. Shortly after, at 4:13 am, Ripon Rana and autorickshaw driver Rana Hawlader brought down the body of Bellal Raj together.
Local media workers learned that the young man named Ripon Rana had once driven a trawler at Charmonai Trawler Ghat. Due to this, he was known as ‘Trawler Ripon’. At one point, Ripon started presenting himself as a journalist on his Facebook page. He became a member of various Bhuifor journalist organizations.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman told us, ‘On receiving the news, three of the four people present at the spot have been arrested. The detainees claimed that they were hanging out together at night. At that time, Bellal died after touching a high-voltage electric wire near the building. However, the family claims that it was a murder. “We have not received any written complaint yet. Further legal action will be taken if a complaint is received.”
