    ‘Bangladesh’s development is not possible by bypassing the hilly regions’

    Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has commented that the development of Bangladesh is not possible by bypassing the hilly regions. He said this in a message given on Monday on the occasion of the ‘Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord Day’.

    Dr. Yunus said, ‘One-tenth of the total area of ​​the country is inhabited by the people of the hilly regions. Therefore, the development of Bangladesh is not possible by bypassing the hilly regions.’

    The Chief Advisor said that various reforms have been taken by involving the local people to preserve the natural beauty of the hilly districts and expand the tourism industry. This will reduce unemployment, accelerate economic development, and improve living standards and eliminate social inequality.

    He said that the joint efforts of all are necessary to continue the journey of peace, harmony, development and progress in the lives of all the residents of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

    The Chief Advisor said, ‘I am happy to know that like every year, this year too, ‘Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord Day-2024’ is being celebrated. On this occasion, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the people of the Chittagong Hill Tracts region of the country.’

    He said, ‘On this day in 1997, the agreement was signed between the Bangladesh government and the Chittagong Hill Tracts Jana Sanghati Samiti. It was a political agreement, which is also known as the Peace Agreement.’ The Chief Advisor wished for the overall success of the ‘Chittagong Hill Tracts Agreement Day-2024’.

    Dr. Yunus also mentioned in the message that the interim government formed through the mass uprising of students, workers and the people is committed to building a new Bangladesh free from discrimination by keeping the bond of communal harmony intact.
