By-elections in Sherpur-3 and Bogra-6 constituencies by April 14
By-elections in Sherpur-3 and Bogra-6 constituencies will be held before April 14. The Election Commission Secretariat announced this decision. The Election Commission announced this decision this Sunday (February 22) afternoon. After announcing the schedule for the 13th National Parliament elections, the Election Commission postponed the elections in Sherpur-3 constituency following the death of Jamaat candidate Nuruzzaman Badal.
Meanwhile, BNP Chairman Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was elected as a member of parliament from Dhaka-17 and Bogra-6 constituencies. He later vacated the Bogra-6 constituency. As a result, the Election Commission is considering by-elections in Sherpur-3 and Bogra-6 constituencies before April 14.
In the 13th National Parliament elections held on February 12, BNP won 209 out of 297 seats and achieved a majority. The current number of seats in the BNP alliance is 212, including 3 more seats for alliance partners. On the other hand, the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami won 77 seats, taking the opposition seats. Independent candidates won 7 seats and the remaining one seat was won by the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh.
