Businessman dies after being stabbed with scissors by sister-in-law in Old Dhaka
A businessman injured in Islampur under the capital’s Kotwali police station has died after being stabbed with scissors by his sister-in-law. The deceased has been identified as Selim Raja (40). He was a cloth merchant.
He and his sister Dalim were twins among six brothers and three sisters. They are both younger. Selim is the son of Nurul Haque Munshi of Bakerganj upazila in Barisal. He currently lives with his family in Ashek Lane in Islampur, Old Dhaka.
He died while undergoing treatment at around 2:15 am on Saturday. The incident took place last Friday afternoon.
The body has been kept at the DMCH Hospital morgue for an autopsy, confirmed Inspector Md. Faruk, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost.
The deceased’s elder brother Md. Rafiqul Islam said that Selim used to be a cloth merchant. Selim had several arguments with his younger sister-in-law Sumon over money transactions. The family sat down at Selim’s office in Islampur to reach an agreement on this matter. During the discussion, an argument started between them. At that time, his sister-in-law, Suman, injured Selim with scissors kept in the office. Later, he was rescued and first taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital. He was given primary treatment there and then admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He died on Saturday night while undergoing treatment there.
He also said, “There was a dispute between us, we do not want to make any complaint about this.”
