Bus collides with bamboo-laden truck, 3 killed including police officer
Three people including a central leader of the Swechchhasebak Dal and a police officer were killed when a bus lost control and collided with a bamboo-laden truck in Jessore. The accident occurred on the Jessore-Narail highway in Bhangura area of Bagharpara upazila at around 11 pm last Sunday (September 14). The deceased are former deputy general secretary of the Swechchhasebak Dal central parliament M. Zafar Ali, son of Mujid Hawlader of Boro Vekutia village of Jessore Sadar upazila, Akhter Hossain, son of Basundia Ahmed Ali, and SI Nikkan Aadhya, son of Nishikant Aadhya of Chhatiantola area of Bagharpara upazila. Tularampur Highway Police said that a bamboo-laden truck was parked in Bhangura Bazar area of Bagharpara upazila of Jessore on the Narail-Jasore highway. A bus of the ‘Narail Express’ going from Dhaka to Jessore lost control and hit the truck from behind. As a result, the front glass of the bus broke and the tip of the bamboo entered the bus. Immediately after the accident, locals found the bus passenger Akhter Hossain dead on the spot. Rescuers took volunteer party leader Abu Zafar and police officer Nikkan Adhi to Jessore General Hospital in a serious condition. After taking Abu Zafar to the hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead. Police officer Nikkan was sent to Dhaka for better treatment. However, when his physical condition deteriorated on the way, he was taken to Narail Sadar Hospital. At around 12:30 am, the doctor on duty declared police officer Nikkan also dead. Police said that Sub-Inspector (SI) Nikkan Adhi joined the Bangladesh Police as an extra-division cadet in the 37th batch. He joined the Lahuria Investigation Center of Lohagara Police Station in February this year. Earlier, he was working in RAB. Tularampur Highway Police Station OC Sheikh Sekender Ali said the bodies of volunteer party leaders Zafar and Akhtar are at the Jessore General Hospital morgue and the police officer’s body is at the Narail morgue. The bodies will be handed over to the relatives after the autopsy.
