Wildfires Burn Swimmer’s 10 Olympic Medals.
Los Angeles in California has caught up in wildfire. Over 1,000 homes burnt into ashes. The toll of death has crossed 10.Over 70,000 people are rescued. Because of this fire several athletes suffered due to this catastrophe. One of them is a former swimmer named Gary Hall Jr. His 10 Olympic Medals were all burnt.
Hall represented the United States in the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympics. He won five gold, three silver and two bronze medals. In addition, he has 6 world championship medals. The fire also touched Hall’s house. He could not save a single Olympic medal. He could not save the world championship medals either.
Hall said, “A lot of people are asking if the medals have burned too. Yes, they have all burned. I can’t live without the medals. It feels like there is nothing left. I have to start over. I have to work hard for that. What else can I do?”
The 50-year-old former swimmer further explained, ‘I may not hold my emotions once I get into my house. I will have to look for the medals in the ash heap. At least I will keep it with me though melted. I don’t know, I may get them at all. At least, I don’t think anything would remain here.
He has gone there, being badly traumatised: “I have never seen such a terrible situation, never in films. I had just been on the phone to my daughter; it was then smoke came into my house from behind. Within some moments, fire engulfed my home as well. Explosions rang once or twice; there is no waiting time anymore. I would have to reach outside of home urgently.”.
Mexican footballer Carlos Villa also suffered the agony of that fire. His house was also burnt to ashes. NBA team Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick was also left homeless. The horror of the incident has also touched Beckham’s family.
