BSF arrests youth from Akhaura border
The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has arrested a youth named Munna Mia (20) from Akhaura border in Brahmanbaria. The incident took place on Wednesday (December 17) morning in the Bautala border area of Mogra union of the upazila. Later, the BSF handed over Munna to Agartala West Police Station in Tripura state. Munna is a drug smuggler by profession. He is the son of Shah Alam Mia of Bautala village bordering the upazila.
Villagers and several reliable sources said that Munna is involved in drug smuggling on the Bautala border route of Akhaura upazila. He is known as a known drug smuggler and drug addict in that area. Munna and some smugglers went to bring a consignment of drugs through the Bautala border point early yesterday. At one point, the patrolling personnel of the BSF camp located in Joynagar, Tripura state, India, chased them. At that time, the BSF was able to catch Munna. Later yesterday afternoon, the BSF handed over Munna to the state’s Agartala West Police Station. Munna’s father Shah Alam confirmed the matter, quoting Jasimuddin, a resident of the bordering state of Tripura.
He said, “After waking up in the morning, I came to know that Munna had been detained by the BSF. A relative of mine in the Joynagar area of Tripura was informed about the matter. They went to the BSF camp and tried to rescue my son. However, the BSF handed over his son Munna to the Agartala West Police Station in the afternoon.
Subedar Md. Shahjahan, commander of the 60th BGB camp at Akhaura land port, said, “We have come to know from unconfirmed sources that the BSF has picked up a Bangladeshi youth from the 2025-5/S border pillar area of Bautala. We have been trying to contact them since morning to confirm the matter. But there has been no response from the BSF,” he said.
