Bride raped by friends, husband and 7 arrested

A husband has been accused of gang-raping a bride by friends in Gaibandha. The incident took place on Thursday (August 28) night in Osman Para village of Kamalerpara union of Saghata upazila. Police have arrested 7 people including the husband of the housewife who was raped in this incident. The relatives of the housewife have alleged that last Wednesday (August 27), the son of Ashadul Islam of Osman Para village of Saghata upazila, got married to a girl from Kochashhar union of Gobindaganj upazila. The marriage took place late on Wednesday night. After cheating her at her husband’s house on Thursday night and giving her several pills, a group of people raped her with the help of her husband. On Friday around 2 pm, the bride’s family members admitted her to the Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex. Later, the duty doctor sent her to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. The family of the young woman who was raped on Friday night filed a complaint with the Gobindaganj police station and on Saturday, the police arrested seven people including her husband. Fahad Al Asad, resident medical officer of Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex, said the newlyweds who came for treatment had rape marks and injury marks on their bodies. Bulbul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Police Station, said the incident is being investigated. Detailed information was not available as the young woman who was raped was ill.
