Bomb explodes in clash between two BNP groups, 5 injured
At least 5 people were injured in a bomb explosion during a land dispute settlement between two BNP groups in Balunda village of Benapole Port police station. 10 to 12 hand bombs were detonated during the incident.
According to local sources, an arbitration meeting was held on Saturday night between Ahid Biswas and Fazlu Biswas of Balunda Uttar Para to resolve a land dispute. At that time, leaders and activists supporting Putkhali Union BNP Senior Vice President Kamrul and Balunda Ward BNP President Kabirul got involved in a clash at a stage of verbal altercation. Several hand bombs exploded during this time, injuring 5 leaders and activists supporting Kabirul. Later, the injured were rescued and 2 were admitted to Sharsha Upazila Health Complex and the rest were sent home after receiving primary treatment.
The injured are Irfan Ali (35), son of Ombat Ali of Balunda village under Benapole Port Police Station, Abuzar (23), son of Sultan Mallick, Mokarul (8), son of Abdul Gani, Abu Siddique (45), son of Tahazzat Morol, and Jalal Uddin (32), son of Put.
Benapole Port Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Russell Mia said that when the chase and exchange of fire started between the two groups, the police reached the spot and dispersed them. Police have been deployed at the spot.
He said that the situation in the area is currently under control of the police.
