Boko Haram attacks kill at least 60 in Nigeria
At least 60 people have been killed in an attack by the armed group Boko Haram in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno state. The incident took place in the town of Darul Jamal on Friday night (September 5) local time. According to various international media reports, the terrorists entered the town on motorcycles. They opened fire indiscriminately from automatic weapons. They set houses on fire. Five soldiers were among the dead. The governor of Borno state expressed grief over the incident. He said that members of a newly formed force called Forest Guards would be deployed to ensure security in the region. Although the activities of the armed group Boko Haram have decreased somewhat since the insurgency of the militant group Boko Haram from 2013 to 2015, they have not completely stopped. Instead, they continue to attack various places at regular intervals. For several years, efforts have been made in Nigeria to close shelters for internally displaced persons and send them back to their villages. However, this recent attack has called into question the initiatives of the past few years.
