Body of missing teenager recovered from river in Sherpur
The body of a teenager who went missing while bathing with friends in the Mrigi River in Chhonkanda area of Bhatshala Union in Sherpur Sadar Upazila has been recovered. The body was found at a place called Lelur Ghat next to Kuthurakanda No. 48 Government Primary School in the union on Sunday (August 17). The deceased teenager has been identified as Abdul Jalil (16). He had passed his SSC this year and was preparing to enter college. Earlier, Jalil went missing while bathing with friends at the Ilisha Ghat on the Mrigi River at around 1 pm on Saturday. Later, fire service personnel in Sherpur and Jamalpur were unable to rescue him despite day-long efforts. Local sources said that three friends went to bathe together in the Ilisha village of the Mrigi River at noon. At that time, two of them wanted to drown in the water current, and Abdul Jalil rescued two of them one by one. However, he himself was swept away by the current and disappeared. Sherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jubaidul Alam confirmed the incident. He said, “We are aware of the matter and are in touch with his family.”
