Bodies will be exhumed if necessary in Gopalganj incident: Home Affairs Advisor
The bodies of those killed in the clashes surrounding the National Citizens Party (NCP) rally in Gopalganj will be exhumed from their graves and autopsies will be conducted, Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said. He told reporters after visiting the terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Saturday (July 19) afternoon. The Home Affairs Advisor said that the autopsy was not possible as the bodies of those killed in the Gopalganj clash were taken away on their own initiative. The bodies will be exhumed and autopsies will be conducted if necessary. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury also said that a high-level committee is working on the issue of the allegations of failure of the law enforcement agencies. The atmosphere in Gopalganj became heated around the NCP rally last Wednesday (July 16). There have been repeated allegations of attacks on Awami League leaders and activists, including the banned Chhatra League, at NCP rally sites and convoys. This morning, law enforcement agencies were attacked and police vehicles were set on fire. Government officials’ vehicles were also not spared. Five people have died so far in the day-long clashes.
