Bodies of teenager and newborn recovered in Barisal

In separate incidents in Banaripara and Gouranadi upazilas of Barisal, police have recovered the bodies of a schoolboy and a newborn from rivers and canals. According to police sources, the body of a schoolboy named Durjoy (12) was recovered from a branch canal of the Sandhya River adjacent to Bawalia village in Syedkathi union of Banaripara.
The deceased Durjoy is the son of Shuklal, a resident of Harta village in Ujirpur upazila, and is a sixth-grade student of a local school. Locals saw the body floating in the river at around 8:45 am today (April 13) and informed the police. It is learnt that Durjoy went missing on April 12 morning while going to collect watermelons from the floating market on the river by boat. Family members searched at various places but could not find any trace of him.
Banaripara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mojibur Rahman confirmed the matter. On the other hand, the body of a newborn baby was recovered from the area adjacent to the Ashokathi Forest Division of the Gournadi-Dhamura Canal in Gournadi this afternoon.
Warid Rahman Joy, an eighth-grade student of the local Ashokathi village, said that he and his two friends were going to bathe in the canal around 1:30 pm when they saw the newborn floating in the water. Later, they pulled the body to the canal bank with sticks and informed the locals.
Tariq Hasan Russell, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gournadi Model Police Station, said that after receiving the information, the police went to the spot and recovered the body of the newborn. The police said that necessary legal action will be taken in both the incidents.
