BNP worker dies of heart attack after speech by denied nomination leader

A BNP worker died of a heart attack after listening to an emotional speech by a BNP leader denied nomination in Sunamganj-1 constituency. Another worker has been admitted to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital after suffering a heart attack. The incident took place at a discussion meeting on Revolution and Solidarity Day in Tahirpur Bazar on Friday (November 7) afternoon. Former chairman of Tahirpur Upazila Parishad and former organizing secretary of the district BNP, Kamruzzaman Kamrul, delivered an emotional speech as the chief guest at the event.
Thousands of leaders and activists joined the Revolution and Solidarity Day program to express solidarity with him for not getting nomination and demand that he be nominated. It was at this program that Shultu Mia (55) of Madhya Tahirpur village died of a heart attack and Modassir Alam, a BNP worker from Sreepur Dakshin Union of the same upazila, suffered a heart attack. Modassir is currently undergoing treatment at Sunamganj Sadar Hospital.
The leaders and activists present said that last Tuesday, the BNP announced the names of its primary candidates in 3 out of 5 seats in Sunamganj. Anisul Haque, who lost to Kamrul by a huge margin in the upazila elections in Sunamganj-1, has been declared the candidate instead of Kamrul. Upon receiving this news, Kamrul’s political fan and BNP activist from Uzan Tahirpur village, Shultu Mia (55), fell ill on the same day.
Yesterday, on Friday, after receiving the news that Kamrul was coming on the Revolution and Solidarity Day, he also arrived in a sick state. When Kamrul was giving an emotional speech, he collapsed again due to mental illness. When party workers rescued him and took him to the hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead. In addition, at the same time, BNP activist Modasshir Alam also broke down mentally after hearing Kamrul’s emotional speech. He also suffered a heart attack. Kamrul immediately sent him to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital. He is personally supervising his treatment there.
Chhatra Dal leader Mazharul Islam Nawab, son of Shultu Mia, who died of a heart attack, said, “My father fell ill after hearing the news that our leader Kamruzzaman Kamrul was not nominated. My father was an incredible fan of Kamrul Saheb. Despite being ill, he came to the rally yesterday. While Kamruzzaman Kamrul was giving an emotional speech, he collapsed. When he was taken to the hospital, the doctors declared him dead.” Meanwhile, BNP worker Modasshir Alam, who was admitted to the hospital after suffering a heart attack, said, “Qamrul bhai is the most popular and worker-friendly leader in our constituency. I am very sad that he did not get the nomination. When I went to the rally yesterday with this grief, I felt pain in my chest after listening to his emotional speech. Later, I was brought to the hospital.” He said, “Qamrul is the heartbeat of our hearts. He understands the language of our minds. Trinamool is crazy about him. If he is given nomination, there is no guarantee that he will have a rival. We demand that Qamrul bhai be given the final nomination at the party forum.”
Kamruzzaman Qamrul, who was denied nomination, said, “I have no money. The leaders and activists bear the expenses of my meetings and rallies. The ordinary leaders and activists are my love. It is impossible to explain how much they love me. One of my fans died of a heart attack during my speech in an emotional state. Another is hospitalized with a heart attack.”
He said, “Because people love me, the past fascist government could not end my political career by filing 7 cases against me and jailing me countless times. I do not know how I will repay the love of these people. If necessary, I am ready to give my life for them. I am shocked by the grief of losing workers.”
