BNP will not use the army for political purposes: Tarique Rahman

Party chairman Tarique Rahman has said that if BNP comes to power, the army will not be used for political purposes. He said this at a meeting with the families of those killed in the Peelkhana massacre and retired military officers at the Radisson Blu Hotel in the capital on Saturday (February 7) night. Tarique Rahman said that the issue of restoring the glory of the army is not limited to words. He also mentioned that it is a matter of earning and retaining glory.
The BNP chairman said that the army will be aware of politics, but will not drown in politics. He also stressed the need for army members to be vigilant so that professionalism does not get buried under the cover of politics. Tarique Rahman also said that there is a plan to declare the day of the Peelkhana massacre as Martyred Army Day, Army Genocide Day or National Mourning Day after discussing with the army. He said that if it comes to power, the name BDR will be restored.
