BNP leader killed over long-standing dispute

A BNP leader named Ramiz Uddin (50) was allegedly stabbed to death with scissors in Shankhuchail area of ​​Burichang upazila of Comilla over a dispute over money owed to him. The deceased’s family has filed a complaint against drug dealer Maqbul Hossain and his associates in this incident. Burichang Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Lutfur Rahman confirmed the matter at around 9 pm on Saturday (February 7).
The deceased Ramiz Uddin is the son of the late Mohabbat Ali of Shankhuchail Uttarpara of Rajpur Union. Union BNP President Azad said that he was the office secretary of Ward No. 7 BNP. According to family and local sources, about 10 years ago, Siraj’s son, Akhter Hossain (50), a resident of Bharat Anandapur, borrowed 15,000 taka from Ramiz Uddin’s brother Mizan and had been in a long-standing dispute with his brother Zamir Hossain (Adud Mia) for buying ganja by taking custody of his brother’s son-in-law.
Last Monday afternoon, an argument broke out in front of Shah Alam and Sattar’s shop in Uttarpara, Shankuchail over the issue of demanding the money owed. At one point, when Ramiz Uddin came forward to resolve the matter, Maqbul Hossain, son of Hasem, a drug dealer from the same area, stabbed him in the stomach and various parts of his body with scissors. He was seriously injured. Ramiz Uddin’s sister Khorsheda Begum Khusho said that he was first taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital. When his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
In this incident, the police went to the spot and detained Maqbul’s wife Sojena Akhter and the deceased’s brother Mizan for questioning and took them to the police station. The deceased’s brother Abdul Sattar alleged that Hashem’s son Maqbul Hossain (drug dealer), Siraj’s son Jamir Hossain, the deceased’s own brother Mizan, Shahid Mia’s son Jamal (drug dealer), Anwara’s son Sumon (drug dealer), Santosh Das’s son Sumon Das (drug dealer) and some unknown people were involved in this murder. They were the ones who mistreated my brother and killed him.
Family and locals Jasmine Akhter and Monowara said that Ramiz Uddin’s body will be brought home from the hospital yesterday and will be buried in the family graveyard after the funeral in the afternoon. The deceased has a wife and three sons. The family and locals have demanded their immediate arrest and exemplary punishment. Tension prevails in the area after this incident.
