BNP has change their thoughts towards student leadership

The BNP has started to change the positive attitude that existed in the July-August movement and the student leadership’s activities with the interim government. Even then, if their backs are not against the wall, the party will not get involved in any conflict with them. Rather, the leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliates and associate organizations will show patience and tolerance. This message was received after talking to BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders after the clash at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) last Wednesday.

BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders said that they have information that Chhatra Shibir has continued its activities on every campus under the banner of the anti-discrimination student movement. But they do not want to allow Chhatra Dal to engage in politics under any circumstances. That is why they (Chhatra Shibir) are demanding a ban on student politics on campus. Despite knowing everything in this situation, they consider the clash at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) to be an isolated incident. For this, the organization expressed regret at a press conference yesterday. It also criticized the anti-discrimination activists. They claimed that Chhatra Shibir is responsible for this clash. This organization has been using the banner of ordinary students to attack Chhatra Dal leaders and activists.

Chhatra Dal leaders said that when their leaders and activists were attacked, the general public joined in and resisted Chhatra Shibir. Through this, the ability to resist them has been shown. Again, tolerance has been shown by expelling a local member of Jubo Dal involved in the incident. Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib told our time, ‘We are showing tolerance.’

An important leader of Chhatra Dal said that Islami Chhatra Shibir will try to make Chhatra Dal look bad to ordinary students in the coming days through various conspiracies. This opportunity will not be given. Chhatra Dal will not do any such activity that will send the wrong message to ordinary students. As a result, they will not fall for Chhatra Shibir’s conspiracy.

Agreeing with Chhatra Dal leaders, responsible BNP leaders said that the upcoming national elections are behind everything. Various conspiracies are being made to postpone this election. As a result, they want to avoid any kind of conflict and violence ahead of the national elections. Because if BNP leaders and activists take to the field to protest the government’s decision and against the activities of the anti-discrimination student movement, an unexpected situation may arise. The party’s leaders and activists believe that a third party will try to take advantage of this, which will not bring good results for BNP.

An important BNP leader said, “We want the current Yunus-led interim government to hold elections in accordance with the people’s demands and leave with dignity. We will continue to pressure him (Dr. Yunus) to hold elections. But we do not want this government to fail under any circumstances. Therefore, BNP will continue its path patiently.”

When we spoke to two leaders at the policy-making level of the party, they said that they want to hold elections while preserving the honor and dignity of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government. Therefore, while creating political pressure on the government, they are not doing anything that disrespects him. Similarly, BNP will criticize the activities of the anti-discrimination student movement or the National Citizens Committee. However, they will not want to take it to a situation where it will get involved in a conflict.

BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy told our time, “Criticizing the government’s shortcomings does not mean they are not cooperating with them. We are cooperating with them.” In response to a question, he said, “Time will tell whether BNP will have to be tough on the demand for elections or not?”

Party sources said that BNP has started rallies at the district level since February 12 as a strategy to put pressure on the government on the election issue. Through this, they also want to create an electoral atmosphere in the country. In addition, they are holding workshops on the 31-point state reform so that a positive idea can be created among the people about this initiative of BNP.

A leader involved in formulating BNP’s work strategy said that the rally will end before Ramadan. The party’s extended central meeting will be held in the capital on February 27. The party’s leaders and activists will be busy with mass communication and iftar-centered politics in the constituency during Ramadan. In the meantime, the party’s policymakers will finalize the post-Ramadan plan.

According to sources at the policy-making level of BNP, the chief advisor has assured them that national elections will be held by December this year. BNP is confident in his statement. However, other parties related to the government have a negative attitude towards the elections. As a result, they are skeptical about whether the government can stick to its decision in the end. Therefore, BNP wants to achieve the roadmap by cooperating with the government in implementing the recommendations of state reforms. All their political strategies are being formulated around achieving the electoral roadmap. Therefore, they are in a state of alertness focusing on the interim government and the student leadership.

Many BNP leaders believe that one party within the interim government wants to remain in power for a long time. In this regard, they are pointing to the process of forming a new party on the initiative of student leaders who are leading the mass uprising. BNP is also alleging that parties are being formed with privileges from the government.
