BNP has been talking about reforms for two years: Tarique Rahman
BNP has been talking about reforms for 2 years, said the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman. He said this in his speech delivered virtually as the chief guest at the concluding session of the departmental training workshop on ’31 points for repairing the state structure and public engagement’ at the Safaridpur Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium on Saturday.
Addressing the leaders and activists, the acting chairman of BNP said, ‘We have to keep the support of the people on our side. Some people think that we have already come to power, but we do not know whether we will come to power or not. We can come to power only if we get the support of the people. And for this, we have to restore the trust of the people first.’
Tareque Rahman said, ‘If anyone in the party makes a mistake, they have to be warned, made aware and brought to the right path. It is difficult to maintain the trust of the people, but it is the responsibility of our leaders and activists. We have to be with the people, we have to keep the people with us.’
He said, ‘BNP always works thinking about the development of the country and the welfare of the people. That is why BNP has been talking about reforms for 2 years now. It is not something that we have been saying for the past few days. BNP has been talking about 31 points for state reforms for a long time. The reason why BNP is the people’s party is discussing the 31 points, which now have to reach the grassroots level. These 31 points have to be conveyed to not only the party leaders and activists, but also to the common people and the support of the common people has to be obtained for them. ’
Tareq Rahman said, ‘We want to create an accountable environment in the country. As a political party, our main goal is accountability. There must be accountability right from a UP member of the union to the minister and the prime minister. Everyone has to be brought into accountability. An accountable environment has to be created in every place. Before this, there was no accountability in the country. ’
Giving an example, the acting chairman of BNP said, ‘You have seen the so-called elections of 2014, 2018 and 2024. You have also seen how the leaders and activists of the associate organizations in Faridpur have smuggled thousands of crores of taka abroad. If there was accountability in the country, would they have been able to save this two thousand crore taka, they would never have been able to. ’
He said, ‘To establish the rights of the country, we have to work with everyone. And that is why we are talking about 31 points. ’
