BNP-Chhatra Dal clash in Narsingdi: One person dies while undergoing treatment

Ismail Hossain (26), a Chhatra Dal activist injured in a clash between BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders and activists in Palash, Narsingdi, has died while undergoing treatment. He died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 2 pm on Saturday (June 21). The deceased’s father Abdur Rahim Bhuiyan confirmed the matter.

Ismail Hossain is the son of Abdur Rahim Bhuiyan of Khanepur village of Ghorashal municipality under Palash police station and a worker of Palash Chhatra Dal.

The father of the deceased said that his son died while undergoing treatment around 2 pm. The body will be handed over after the autopsy. It will be buried in Narsingdi at night. He demanded justice, calling it a planned murder.

Mostafizur Papon, member secretary of the police station Chhatra Dal, said that the deceased Ismail Hossain was a Chhatra Dal worker. BNP Co-Organizing Secretary Fazlul Kabir Jewel and his supporters shot and killed him while undergoing treatment. He said that on June 15, Jewel’s people attacked and fired at a Chhatra Dal procession. At least 10 people were injured in this. Ismail was among them.

He was first admitted to a local hospital and when his condition deteriorated, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He died after being admitted there for 6 days.

On the day of the clash, Ghorashal Municipality Chhatra Dal joint convener Siam Mia filed a case with Palash Police Station, naming District BNP Co-Organizing Secretary Fazlul Kabir Jewel as the main accused and naming 9 people and 40 to 50 unknown people as accused. Later, another case was filed on behalf of Jewel. Police arrested BNP leader Jewel from a private hospital in Dhaka on Thursday (June 19) morning in this incident.

Palash Police Station OC Md. Monir Hossain said he had heard the news of the Chhatra Dal worker’s death. He said that he will take further action according to the law once he receives the death certificate.
