Blockade lifted from Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway

The protesters have lifted the blockade from the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway on the assurance of Jamaat leader Shahjahan Chowdhury. The blockade was lifted after 11:30 am today, Sunday (November 30). Traffic movement has resumed on the highway.
Shahjahan Chowdhury said over the phone that the government has accepted the demand for 6 lanes. The road advisor said that a 34-foot long six-lane road will be built with the help of JICA. Tenders will be invited very soon. Work will start within a month. Earlier, this morning, locals blocked the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway in Keranihat area of Satkania upazila demanding 6 lanes.
Locals said that accidents happen almost every day on this road. These accidents occur due to some risky roads. The road becomes slippery due to salt-laden vehicles. If the road is made into six lanes, accidents will decrease. The government should take quick action in this regard. They also said that the blockade will be lifted only after receiving a promise from the government.
