Big fall in stock market
Investors are growing increasingly frustrated with the stock market. Along with the continuous fall in prices, trading has hit an all-time low.
The country’s main stock market, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), traded only Tk 302 crore yesterday, Sunday. The share prices of most companies in this market fell on this day. This also led to a big fall in the index.
Market analysts say that the market is suffering from a liquidity crisis. This is a manifestation of investors’ lack of confidence in the market. In this situation, the capital market regulator, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange (BSEC) Commission, should take quick and effective measures to restore investor confidence in the market.
A review of the market’s trading picture yesterday showed that out of a total of 392 companies traded on the DSE, the prices of 110 increased, 228 decreased. And the prices of 54 remained unchanged. As a result, the main price index of this market, DSEX, fell by 51 points to 5,146 points compared to the previous day. Among the other two indices, the DSE Shariah Index fell 2 points to 1,149 points compared to the previous day, and the DSE-30 Index, which consists of 30 selected companies, fell 19 points to 1,899 points.
Along with the index, the volume of transactions on the DSE also decreased. The market traded Tk 302.5 crore during the day. The previous working day, Tk 363.79 crore was traded. Accordingly, the transaction decreased by Tk 61.74 crore, which is the lowest transaction on the DSE since October 16. The top 10 companies in terms of transactions in Tk terms on the country’s main stock market yesterday were NRB Bank, Lavello Ice Cream, Fine Foods, Genex Infosys, Beach Hatchery, Beximco Pharmaceuticals, Alif Industries, Square Pharmaceuticals, Agni Systems and Sonali Ansh.
